The story behind the building of this wonder car involves many failed attempts by Porsche to manufacture this prototype, some due to failure of collaborations with other car manufacturers and others due to inappropriate forecasting of demand. However, the dream did not die completely. The motor show in Geneva in 2000 witnessed Porsche displaying a similar prototype of the Carrera. Thanks to the surprising demand and the influx of revenue to develop this product into a road friendly car, Porsche began the production of the Porsche Carrera in 2004 though the number of units that were produced was small. Many changes made in air bag regulations in the United States in 2005 forced Porsche to discontinue the production of Porsche Carrera.

Porsche Carrera is a two door roadster like most sports cars. The engine is of the V10 type and the engine capacity is 5.7 litres producing 450KW of power. It can accelerate up to a mind boggling speed of 330 kilometres per hour. The accelerating speed is also fantastic. The Porsche Carrera can attain a speed of 100 mph in just 7.7 seconds which would make the driver feel as though he is in an aircraft and not a car. The gear box has a gear knob made of birch or ash. This is a continuing tradition from Porsche since the days of Porsche 917. The gear selector is placed adjacent to the steering wheel.

Some of the features missing from Porsche Carrera when compared to its contemporary rivals are the absence of an automatic transmission and dynamic control of stability. An anomaly to the usual placing of car ignition to the right of the steering well, Porsche places the ignition to the left of the steering wheel, a trademark of this world famous brand. The technology that has gone into the making of this wonder is so innovative that claims of filing 72 patents on the design and technology of the Porsche Carrera have been made by Porsche.
