Mercedes Benz CLS
The definition of luxury cars has been taken one notch higher
by Mercedes with the introduction of the Mercedes Benz CLS. This is the name given to the range of sedan cars assembled in Germany by the leading car manufacturing company, Daimler AG. The Mercedes Benz CLS is a full fledged luxury car with the four door coupe. The model of this car has been based on the Mercedes E class. The Mercedes Benz CLS range was originally introduced with the intention of bridging the gap between its predecessor, the Mercedes E class and its successor, the Mercedes S class. This car boasts of combining the enigma of a coupe and the flamboyant charm of a saloon car. Mercedes’ sales increased manifold after the introduction of the Mercedes Benz CLS in the market.
The common model available in this range is the CLS 350 which has a V6 engine with a capacity of 3.5 litres. Some other models of the Mercedes CLS which use the V6 type engines are CLS 320 CDI and CLS 350 CGI. CLS 550 comes with a V8 engine having a capacity of 5.5 litres.
There is a model which can run on diesel too though the commonly bought variants of the Mercedes CLS are the CLS 550 and CLS 350 which can produce a torque ranging between 5000 to 6000 N-m depending on the model. Brake action is achieved by sensotronic mechanism employing four hydraulic brakes. The power steering is speed sensitive and the transmission is of the automatic type.
The Mercedes Benz CLS is loaded with features. The safety features especially, have received a lot of automobile critics’ nod of approval. Besides the air bag in the front of the seat, even the sides have been fitted with air bags to ensure further safety. Another exclusive feature of this car is the presence of automated sensors. They come as a blessing in times of rising incidence of fatal accidents. These sensors act like humans with a predictive nature! This implies that, the sensors can warn the driver of an impending collision. Not just this, automatic safety measures are taken by the sensors to safeguard the passengers against the impact of collision. This includes tightening of seat belts, positioning of the seats in order to minimise impact and the closure of the sunroofs. With this system in place, safety is almost cent percent assured in the event of an accident.
Coming to the comfort that is synonymous with this brand, the Mercedes Benz CLS proves to be an asset in this aspect. The extra doors and the spacious front portion with a large leg space is definitely a plus point. However, the rear portion is a bit cramped. One is forced to believe that the manufacturers have neglected the comfort of the passenger’s in the rear seat. This is a bit disadvantageous to the car being branded as a “family friendly” car. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Mercedes CLS with its class oozing design coupled with practicality and extensive safety features makes it a good car worth the money.
